Project 2
STRUCTURE AND BODY: MATERIALS, ANTHROPOMETRIC AND ERGONOMIC EXPLORATION - 1:1 BAMBOO ACTIVITY STRUCTURE (30% GROUP)
Task :
This assignment involves studying bamboo and its properties, supplemented by materials like rope, steel, or fabric. It includes learning from bamboo experts and understanding human measurements for ergonomics. Using these insights, a design intent is formed, integrating previous learnings. Ideas are then tested through models and prototypes that consider architectural principles and human proportions. Plans are made for constructing a portable bamboo structure on-site. The project concludes with building the structure and creating final drawings and presentation boards.
Design Process
In a group of 20 members, each individual contributes ideas through brainstorming sessions, continuously refining them based on feedback from tutors. Our group excelled in teamwork, with active participation from everyone in all group activities, ensuring no member was left out.
Once the bamboo structure was constructed, we relocated it to the side and began the final preparations for our on-site structure.
Thanks to the excellent teamwork within the group, we were able to complete our structure on schedule for the exhibition, resulting in a successful outcome. Our creation garnered attention from children and visitors alike, who were intrigued and took the opportunity to relax inside our structure.
Final Outcome
REFLECTION
Through our participation in the bamboo project, we learned how crucial communication is, particularly in a large group setting. Effective communication played a key role in ensuring that everyone was on the same page, resulting in the smooth construction of our structure within the given timeframe for the exhibition. Collaborating with our group was essential as it allowed us to leverage each member's strengths. It was truly gratifying to see how much our creation was appreciated, especially by children and visitors who were looking for a peaceful spot to relax. The project not only highlighted the versatility of bamboo as a sustainable material but also emphasized the importance of teamwork, creativity, and effective communication in achieving collective success.
THINKING AND PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS
Throughout this project, we encountered various challenges, including designing issues and conflicts among group members. Despite these hurdles, our large group necessitated collective calmness and unity. We convened group meetings to collaboratively address and resolve these challenges, reinforcing our commitment to working cohesively as a team.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
Through this assignment, I gained insights into navigating large group projects effectively. I recognized that communication stands as a cornerstone for fostering harmony within the group. Any lapses in communication can swiftly escalate misunderstandings, potentially leading to conflicts. Additionally, in sizable groups, equitable task distribution is crucial. This approach ensures that everyone contributes meaningfully to the project, preventing an undue burden on a few individuals.
