Project 1C
RECLAIMED ARCHITECTURE: < A DANCE ANNEXE > - An architecture (art)-built form containing a curation of programmes, to reclaim, preserve and promote the local native and contemporary dance culture - (INDIVIDUAL 60%)
Task :
This project involves designing A Dance Annexe, a standalone, monolithic structure to reclaim, preserve, and promote local dance culture. The annexe, located near Encore Melaka, will host cultural dance programs and public activities. Students will choose one of two sites: the Strait-Site, extending into the sea, or the Park-Site, situated opposite Encore Melaka's main entrance. The design must feature two above-ground storeys (a sunken area up to 1000mm is allowed), with a total floor area of 350–450 sqm. The structure should prioritize universal design for accessibility and foster engagement with Malacca's dance heritage.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
This project provided a valuable opportunity to apply architectural principles in a practical setting while enhancing our lifelong learning and interpersonal skills. Designing a retreat that harmonizes with the tropical site context and accommodates diverse needs challenged us to think critically and creatively.
Through this process, we deepened our understanding of sustainable design and the importance of integrating built environments with their natural surroundings. This aligns with Taylor’s Graduate Capabilities (TGC), particularly in fostering lifelong learning. By researching and applying new materials and techniques, we embraced continuous improvement and adaptability, essential traits for any successful career.
Additionally, managing this project independently required careful time arrangement and organization. Balancing various aspects of the design within the given timeframe sharpened our time management skills, demonstrating the ability to efficiently allocate resources and prioritize tasks. This experience has prepared us for future professional environments where effective time management is crucial.
Overall, this project was a comprehensive learning experience that reinforced our commitment to lifelong education and honed our ability to manage time effectively.
