REFLECTION

For my final project in Architecture Design 1, I re-envisioned and deeply analysed the models from my initial project. Drawing from this fresh perspective, I crafted a design narrative that evolved into an architectural exploration, emphasizing Path, Portal, and Place elements. This design narrative reflected my personal growth journey, particularly how I navigated the challenges of a fractured friendship.

I aptly named my project "TENACIOUS," encapsulating resilience and indomitability, mirroring my personal experience. Among the material options like concrete, timber, glass, and steel, I opted for concrete, steel columns, and frosted laminated glass, each contributing distinct characteristics pivotal to my vision.

The model chronologically guided me from the path, leading me through the portal and finally arriving at a significant place. Initially, the design featured a confined passage, followed by a challenging inclined slope, symbolizing moments of vulnerability. Yet, a helping hand emerged through a subtle triangular opening, aiding my ascent to the portal. Amidst fleeting joy, a betrayal ensued, plunging me into obscurity. Despite this setback, my determination persisted, navigating the darkness like a labyrinth until a glimmer of light reignited my spirit.

My presentation board showcased multiple drawings elucidating the design's essence. Employing abstract drawing, I visualized the entire journey, complemented by four diagrams elucidating the design evolution from Project 1 and spatial experiences. Notably, my inaugural attempt at an exploded axonometric drawing became a highlight, meticulously detailing my journey for viewers.

With the guidance of my tutor's insightful feedback, my design went through continuous improvement, ensuring its refinement. Their meticulous review of my drawings proved invaluable and paved the way for an exemplary outcome.

This project was not easy, and I experienced a range of emotions throughout the five weeks, including happiness, sadness, depression, and feeling overwhelmed. However, I was glad that I knew how to manage these negative emotions well, so I could keep thinking of good ideas and producing a superb outcome. I am grateful to all my friends who worked with me in the studio, creating a fun and supportive atmosphere that reduced my stress and negative emotions. We always helped each other to ensure we could complete our work on time.

Overall, this project was challenging, but it improved my skills and knowledge significantly. Even though I tested positive for COVID-19 during the interim session, I appreciated my friends who shared all their comments from other tutors, which helped me improve my design. The external panels also gave me a lot of good advice and motivated me to keep going in the upcoming semester. I am excited to explore more in the coming semester after this project.

During this assignment, I realized the significance of time management in ensuring timely completion of tasks. Additionally, this marked my first experience creating a manual presentation board during my degree, enhancing my understanding of presentation board layouts and proper drawing techniques. Overall, this project significantly improved my drawing skills, particularly in producing orthographic and exploded axonometric drawings of my model.

INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

LifeLong Learning

Throughout this project, I have been encouraged to constantly improve my skills, learn new techniques, and adapt to changing requirements. Each task provides an opportunity for me to delve deeper into design principles, improve my visualization abilities, and master the art of effective communication through visual representation. I see this project as a lifelong learning journey, where I not only meet my immediate objectives but also cultivate a mindset that values continuous growth, innovation, and excellence in architectural presentation.
