Task :
The emphasis of the final assignment is on drawing a microhouse. We need to create various drawings, including a site plan, floor plan, two elevations, a section, and two additional detail drawings. Before starting the drawing process, we are required to locate a suitable site and conduct research on the materials for the microhouse construction and the furniture that can be found in the IKEA booklet that will be placed inside the house.
Site Chosen
In this task, we are presented with two options: a forest or a riverside, and I have opted to have my microhouse constructed in a forest situated on a hillside. To illustrate my preference, I captured a screenshot of the desired location using the Google Earth map.
Materials
During my research, I focused on finding suitable materials to ensure the stability and safety of the house construction. It was crucial for the roof, walls, floor, windows, and doors to complement the chosen site. Additionally, I needed to determine the dimensions of these materials to facilitate accurate drawings later on.
IKEA Catalogue
I have decided to furnish my microhouse exclusively with furniture from the IKEA catalog. The reason behind this choice is that all the furniture items in the IKEA catalog come with appropriate dimensions and measurements, making it easy to arrange them properly within the limited space of the microhouse.
To begin with, I created a rough layout to have it reviewed by my tutor. This allows me to advance with my drawings every week, following the timeline provided by the lecturer.
Drawings
By adhering to the timeline provided during the lecture, I managed to complete all my drawings before the final tutorial class. I began by sketching the title block and proceeded to work on the final drawing. Once I finished the initial pencil drawing, I utilized Artline to outline the drawing once more and apply hatching to the materials used.
OUTCOME
After dedicating nearly a week of hard work, I successfully completed all the drawings, starting from using a pencil to finishing with Artline. It fills me with immense joy to have fulfilled all the required assignments for the Introduction to Drawing module.
REFLECTION
This assignment has been an enlightening drawing experience. Throughout this process, I've gained invaluable skills in drawing, particularly in the preparatory stages before constructing a house, mastering the use of symbols, and accurately depicting intricate details. I'm truly thankful for my tutor, who consistently provides valuable feedback, helping me identify mistakes and improve my drawings. his expert guidance and constructive comments have been instrumental in my progress. Additionally, his inspiring suggestions for enhancing my micro house design have fueled my passion for continuous growth in art. I am genuinely grateful for his mentorship and support.
THINKING AND PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS
I try all the drawings before I go to tutorial class every week. I see the example shown by the lecturer and do research online to solve all my difficulties and problems. Not only that, I try to show all my progress as much as I can during weekly progress checks so I have more time to finalize my drawings.
This assignment holds 50% of the marks, so I gave it my full attention. Consequently, I realized the significance of effective time management and learned to decline any extensions offered, as they could potentially hinder my progress. By prioritizing this assignment and being disciplined with my time, I aimed to achieve the best possible outcome and make the most of this valuable learning opportunity.
