Project 2
DESIGN PRINCIPLES (30% GROUP)
Task :
This project consists of two parts and requires a group of 5-6 members to complete. Part 1 involves individual work where each member selects a design principle and creates two related models. For Part 2, the group collaborates to build a hybrid model using ideas from the design principles explored in Part 1.
Distribution of Design Principles
Each group member selects a design principle and creates two models that are related to the chosen principle.
I chose unity and harmony as the design principle for my project. Therefore, I desire to construct a model that appears consistent and well-organized. To begin the design process, I searched for inspiration on Pinterest. I created two different models - one with a boxy structure and the other with triangular forms. The boxy structure was created by combining cubes, resulting in a curved shape. The other design resembled a crystal and was also inspired by the Lotus Temple.
Orthographic Drawing
We have two models to choose from for creating the orthographic drawing, and I have selected the crystal-like model. I decided to take a photo from above, which will make it simpler to draw the top view.
I was unsure if my drawing was correct, so I decided to sketch a top view on a sheet of butter paper. Once I verified that it was accurate, I proceeded to draw on the A3 paper.
Great news! The orthographic drawings have been completed. I can now submit them and begin our group task, which is to build a hybrid model. ; )
Hybrid Model
Our group had its first meeting to plan the creation of a hybrid model from the mini models we built using design principles. We gathered in the Xspace and began sketching our ideas on the whiteboard. Once we had an overall concept, the group leader distributed tasks to each member.
We have been staying on campus to complete our final hybrid model, and I must say, our teamwork is excellent. The group leader is responsible for delegating tasks to all members, who work on different parts of the hybrid model that can be combined later. This distribution of work has significantly increased our speed and efficiency in completing our project.
After spending two days on campus, we successfully completed our hybrid model. It was worth the effort and everyone was satisfied with the outcome. Now, it's time for us to rest and have an independent learning week in our respective hometowns. During this week, we will compile the slides for our project.
REFLECTION
Welcome to the second assignment for this module. It's an opportunity for us to demonstrate our teamwork skills. Even though we encountered some obstacles while creating the hybrid model, we took a step back, stayed calm, and worked together to overcome them. I'm grateful to have had a great leader who guided us and made the process run smoothly, resulting in an excellent outcome. Through this assignment, I gained a deep understanding of design elements and principles. It can be said that I now fully comprehend this knowledge.
LifeLong Learning
Through this assignment, I have acquired a greater understanding of design principles and elements, which I believe will prove beneficial to my final project. Additionally, my knowledge of slide arrangement and layout has increased, making me more proficient in utilizing Canva.
During this assignment, I gained insight into the significance of efficient time management and the benefits of working as a team. Proper time management guarantees productivity and meeting deadlines, while teamwork enables us to leverage different perspectives and achieve shared success. Moreover, I now appreciate the importance of effective communication and cooperation for the overall success of a project.
