Project 1
DESIGN ELEMENTS (20% INDIVIDUAL)
Task :
Compile six reference images/photos of an interior building space (portrait orientation only) into a template, mark and identify points, connect them with lines to create two-dimensional patterns, and add descriptions for formal analysis; then develop one pattern into a three-dimensional (3D) model on an A5-sized base (15cm x 21cm) using shapes and forms to create planes and voids, exploring geometrical order, and produce a minimum of two mock-up models before finalizing the one model not exceeding 15cm in height.
Research on Pinterest
I began searching for images that really attract me on Pinterest.
Mark point and connect
Once I have chosen the images, mark the points and connect them. Additionally, I will need to come up with a description of the pattern that I have created.
Mock-up models
For the second part of this project, I selected two pattern designs that I was happy with and decided to develop them into 3D forms. I printed or drew the patterns and pasted them onto the foam board. I then used satay sticks and sticky tack to build two mock-up models on the foam board.
Final model
I have just completed building the final model after spending an additional ten hours on it. The interior of the model has been layered with different colors and materials, which has greatly enhanced its appearance. I am pleased to say that my hard work has paid off, and the final product closely resembles one of my mock-up models.
I helped my model take some professional-looking photos by using the light in my room to capture their light and shadow forms. Additionally, I took my model outside to take some photos by the lakeside at Taylor's.
Overall
I had taken a photo with my first model of the semester, which holds a lot of meaning for me. I feel proud of my work and can hardly believe that I was able to achieve such a great outcome, but I put forth my best effort in this module.
REFLECTION
This is my first assignment in the ITSD module. Honestly, when I started reading the brief, I felt lost and unsure of how to proceed. Fortunately, the tutors were there to guide us and help us achieve successful outcomes. In my last semester of the foundation year, I was pleasantly surprised by the first model I created. It made me feel both shocked and happy, and it allowed me to pursue my interest in modeling.
THINKING AND PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS
I am determined to overcome any obstacles that come my way. Instead of giving up, I conduct research and seek assistance from others to resolve any issues. I have also learned how to remain calm and approach challenges methodically to ensure that I can handle them without being overwhelmed.
LifeLong Learning
During this assignment, I acquired a great deal of new knowledge about design elements and principles. This knowledge has enabled me to develop my ideas with greater creativity. In addition, I have learned how to apply this knowledge to construct a model, rather than simply creating one randomly without utilizing any of the concepts I have learned.
