MY THOUGHTS AND OVERALL A&E JOURNEY

REFLECTION

In a nutshell, I have found the 7-week course on A&E to be a transformative experience that has provided me with profound insights into the realm of sustainability in architecture. Despite its brevity, this semester has proven to be immensely enriching, allowing me to delve deeply into the intricate interplay between architectural design and its environmental impact. The knowledge I have gained during this module has been invaluable, and it is poised to significantly influence my future academic endeavors.

Not only have I acquired a comprehensive understanding of concepts such as daylighting, thermal comfort, sustainability, and green buildings, but I have also developed a heightened awareness of their implications for the built environment. This newfound knowledge base equips me with the tools to critically analyze architectural designs and instills in me a sense of responsibility towards adopting sustainable practices in future projects.

Overall, this course has been a pivotal stepping stone in my academic journey, empowering me with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complexities of sustainable architecture with confidence and foresight.

My thoughts

For Project 1, my primary focus revolved around conducting research on double-story houses confronting issues related to thermal comfort and daylighting. Fortunately, my own residence was selected as the subject for this investigation, affording me the unique opportunity to gather Lux readings and temperature data firsthand. Despite having resided in this house for nearly eight years, it was only upon embarking on this project that I became cognizant of the thermal comfort and daylighting challenges it faced. Nevertheless, this newfound awareness prompted our team to devise innovative solutions aimed at addressing these issues comprehensively.

Regarding Project 2, I must admit that delving into the intricacies of Malaysia's green building initiatives was an enlightening experience for me. Throughout the research journey, I immersed myself deeply in understanding the Green Building Index (GBI) and its six criteria for rating buildings. Moreover, I gained invaluable insights into the vast array of green buildings proliferating across Malaysia, all aimed at enhancing the quality of life for its residents. A particular highlight of my research was the in-depth analysis of the Diamond Building in Putrajaya, recognized as the first platinum-rated green building in Malaysia by GBI. This exploration not only broadened my understanding of sustainable architectural practices but also highlighted the collaborative efforts being made to promote eco-friendly living environments in the country.

In summary, participating in A&E during this abbreviated semester has afforded me the opportunity to acquire a wealth of valuable knowledge that will undoubtedly benefit me in future academic endeavors. Additionally, I've developed proficiency in utilizing AutoCAD software, having employed it to digitally create orthographic drawings.
