CREATIVE APPROACH - ASSESSING DAYLIGHT & THERMAL COMFORT AT MODERN HOUSES (30% GROUP)
Task :
Groups comprising five individuals select a type of house and a space with issues related to daylighting and/or thermal comfort. Following this, gather secondary data and conduct Lux and temperature readings at specific times. Subsequently, tabulate their findings and propose passive design strategies, supported by before-and-after photos and sketches. Additionally, create various drawings including location plans, floor plans, elevations, and sections to substantiate the project's findings and proposed interventions.
Process
Aggregating all the data and research conducted by each group member using Canva and Microsoft Word facilitates accessibility for all members to review the information. This collective effort enables the group to organize the data into two A2 boards effectively.
Outcome
REFLECTION
This was the first assignment for A&E, a collaborative effort with five members. It was my maiden attempt at assuming a leadership role and guiding a group comprising unfamiliar team members. Although challenging, this experience enabled me to forge new friendships and enhance my leadership skills. Furthermore, I gained insights into the weaknesses of my house and identified methods to enhance its daylighting and thermal comfort.
THINKING AND PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS
I am committed to overcoming any challenges I encounter. Rather than succumbing to obstacles, I engage in research and seek support from others to address any issues. For instance, when we selected my house in Penang for the case study, I made an effort to gather all the necessary data and information, with my teammates assisting in preparing the presentation board.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS
Through this assignment, I learned about the importance of efficient time management and the value of teamwork. Proper time management ensures productivity and meeting deadlines, while teamwork allows us to benefit from diverse perspectives and achieve shared success. Additionally, I now understand the significance of effective communication and cooperation for overall project success.
